04.02.07 - J-Dilla Changed My Life

A year on from his death at the age of 32, tonight's tribute to James "Jay Dee" Yancey (aka J Dilla), sees some of London's biggest hip-hop names giving the influential producer some well-deserved props, with proceeds going to the foundation set up by his mother.
Party stalwarts the Extended Players — Mobo winner Shortee Blitz and
ex-Scratch Perverts Harry Love and Mr Thing — tread a jagged, technically brilliant line between gritty basement beats and smoother grooves, supplemented by soulful breaks from 4hero's Marc Mac and the funkier sounds of BBE Records founder Pete Adarkwah, all helping to ensure that Dilla's legacy in music and charity endures.
